Finnish phone cases – materials and manufacturing
Real wood, real fabric, made in the Nordics
Lastu has been making phone cases since 2011. The materials are real — birch, military fabric, coffee — not printed imitations on plastic. Every phone case is made to order, so two identical ones are a rarity.
What are Lastu Case made of?
Mainly Nordic birch grown in FSC-certified forests, plus genuine military fabric. The wood is treated with several layers of wax, the dyes used meet EN 71 and ASTM standards, and the Case are assembled by hand in Northern Finland. We do not use endangered wood species. Case are made to order in 2–10 days, and delivery then takes 2–5 business days.
Four material families
Birch
Nordic birch in several shades: light LUMI, black HIILI, dark red RUSKA, and purple HORSMA. The grain pattern is different in every phone case.
Wooden Case →Tar-treated birch
KELO and TERWA get their surface from traditional tar treatment: a darker shade, matte finish, and a scent you’ll recognize.
TERWA and KELO →Military fabric
Genuine M05, MM14, and Flecktarn camouflage fabric. Durable, matte, and grippy — the same fabric used in gear.
Camouflage patterns →Design and specialty materials
RATIA patterns printed on birch, the KARB phone case’s bamboo fiber composite with a carbon fiber look (50% natural bamboo), and limited editions made only once.

Production
Made to order, not for stock
Case are not made to sit in stock waiting for a buyer. An order starts production: the wood is cut and sanded for that exact phone model, personalization is engraved or printed, the MagSafe magnet is installed if selected, and the surface is finished.
This leads to two things. First: very little material goes to waste, because nothing is made unnecessarily. Second: delivery is not picking from stock; production takes 2–10 days before the package is shipped. Read more about sustainability →

Frequently asked questions
Where are Lastu phone cases made?
The phone cases are handcrafted in Northern Finland. Production starts only after an order is placed, so the production time is 2–10 days, followed by delivery in 2–5 business days.
Where does the wood come from?
The birch comes from Nordic FSC-certified forests. Endangered wood species are not used at all.
Does a wooden phone case hold up in everyday use?
It does. The wood is surface-treated with several layers of wax, and the structure has a raised edge around the screen and camera. Protection has been measured in the article Drop protection and thickness.
Is every phone case different?
Wooden phone cases are. The birch grain pattern varies from sheet to sheet, so no two are exactly alike. In military fabric phone cases, the pattern placement varies in the same way.
Which phone models are the Case available for?
For iPhone, Samsung, OnePlus, Google Pixel, and Realme models. New models are added to the range soon after release.
