Why do all phone cases look exactly the same? That question is where it all began.
The idea that became a brand
In 2011, Sakke is holding a plastic phone case. It’s cheap, everyone has one, and it means absolutely nothing. He thinks: does it really have to be this way?
From that one question, Lastu was born. Not from a business plan, not from investor pressure — just from frustration and a belief that a phone deserves something better.
The first Case were made from Nordic wood, handcrafted in the Nordics. Each one was different, because every piece of wood is different. It wasn’t a marketing line — it was the whole idea.
Awards — and customers who stayed
Lastu received the Design Act of the Year award in 2014. Two years later, Sakari was chosen as Young Entrepreneur of the Year in Finland.
The awards were a sign that the idea resonated more widely. But what mattered more was what happened with customers: people found Lastu and stayed. Recognition wasn’t sought — it was earned.
Something the world didn’t have yet
In 2018, Lastu launched the world’s first M05 camouflage phone cases — with the official pattern of the Finnish Defence Forces. No one had done this before.
Some said the launch was too bold. We did it anyway, because boldness is part of what Lastu is.
Your story, your phone case
Customers had been asking for a long time: can I add my own photo? In 2019, the answer became yes. Color printing brought personalization in — your photo, your logo, your story directly onto the surface of the phone case.
From this point on, Lastu no longer just told the brand’s story. It made room for your stories. The result isn’t a product — it’s yours.
Made in the Nordics, carried everywhere
The collaboration with design brand RATIA brought a collection to market that became a hit — over 20,000 Case sold. At the same time, Lastu phone cases were already being shipped to more than 30 countries: Sweden, Germany, Denmark, the United States and beyond.
Even so, everything was still made in the Nordics the whole time. It still is. The RATIA × Lastu collection still remains in the selection.
See it before you order
One thing was missing for a long time: in the online store, you couldn’t see what your own phone case would look like. You guessed and hoped for the best.
In 2022, that changed. A new design tool brought real-time preview — choose your phone model, material and image, and see the result right before your eyes. No surprises. Just what you wanted.
This will never be finished
In fifteen years, copycats have come along. They’ve also gone. Lastu is still here — with the same determination as in 2011, but with a lot more experience.
New models are arriving all the time: this autumn, the selection welcomed the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple’s foldable iPhone 18 Ultra, and in spring the Galaxy S26 series. We boldly test new materials and collaborations. No compromises — not then, not now.
