Two friends and one annoying plastic phone case
In 2011, Sakari "Sakke" Arffman held a plastic phone case in his hand. It was cheap, everyone had one, and it meant absolutely nothing. From that single frustration, Lastu was born - not from a business plan or investor pressure.
Sakke and Jussi Patopuro made the first Case from Nordic wood, handcrafted in Northern Finland. Each one was different, because wood is different. It wasn’t a marketing line - it was the whole idea.
Fifteen years later, the workshop is still in the same place, in Åström’s old leather factory. Same wood, same hands, more phone models. Lastu received the Design Deed of the Year recognition in 2014, and Sakari was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2016.

This is how Lastu is made
1. You design and see
Choose your phone model, material, and engraving, image, or text. The preview shows the phone case in real time, and the production file is created directly from it.
2. We make one material at a time
Phone cases are made to order on production days by material: birch, tarred wood, and fabrics each have their own slot. That’s why production takes 2–10 days.
3. Laser and craftsmanship
The engraving is laser-burned into the wood, and the fabrics are cut from genuine military fabric. Sanding, finishing, and inspection are done by hand.
4. To the post office and delivered
Your phone case ships as a letter or tracked parcel, and you’ll get an email about it. Nordic delivery in 2–5 business days.

Three things Lastu is made of
No print, no wood-patterned plastic, no film. What you see on the surface is what’s actually on the surface.
Genuine Nordic birch
The back plate of every wooden Lastu is a single layer of real birch. The grain runs through the surface, not on top of it. Sanding, staining, and finishing are done by hand in our own workshop — staining in accordance with EN 71 and ASTM standards, with the same safety level as wooden children’s toys.
No two are alike. And we’re not trying to make them so.
Genuine military fabric
Camouflage-patterned Case are cut from real fabric, not printed patterns. Seven fabrics from five countries: M05 forest and snow camo, M04 desert, Ukraine’s MM14, Germany’s Flecktarn, Sweden’s M90, and MultiCam.
Lastu made the world’s first M05 Case in 2018. No one had done it before.

Start

2014–2016
Awards
Design Act of the Year 2014. Two years later, Sakari was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Recognition wasn’t sought — it came to us.
2018
The world's first M05 phone cases
With the official camouflage pattern of the Finnish Defence Forces. No one had done it before, and some said the move was too bold. We did it anyway.
2019
Your own image on a phone case
Color printing brought personalization into the mix. From then on, Lastu no longer told only its own story — it made room for yours.
2020
RATIA and the world
Our collaboration with design brand RATIA sold over 20,000 phone cases. At the same time, Lastu cases were already heading to more than 30 countries. Still made in the Nordics — and they still are.

Where are Lastu phone cases made?
Each phone case is handmade to order in Lastu’s own workshop in Northern Nordic, at the old Åström leather factory. Design, engraving, finishing, and packaging all happen under one roof.
Is Lastu a dropshipping store?
No. Lastu makes each Case in the Nordics and doesn’t ship ready-made products from an overseas warehouse. That’s why every phone case has a production time, and why you can personalize your phone case.

No. Lastu is an online store and workshop, and all orders are shipped. The Nahkatehtaankatu address is a postal and business address, not a store. Returns are always arranged by email first.
