Finnish phone cases – materials and manufacturing

Materials

Real wood, real fabric, made in Finland

Lastu has been making phone cases since 2011. The materials are genuine — birch, military fabric, coffee — not a picture of them printed onto plastic. Every case is made to order, so two identical ones are a rarity.

Short answer

What are Lastu cases made of?

Mostly Nordic birch grown in FSC-certified forests, plus genuine military fabric. The wood is finished with several coats of wax, the dyes meet EN 71 and ASTM standards, and the cases are assembled by hand in Northern Finland. We never use endangered wood species. Cases are made to order in 2–10 days, and delivery takes a further 2–5 business days.

Materials

Four material families

Birch

Nordic birch in several shades: pale LUMI, black HIILI, dark red RUSKA and purple HORSMA. The grain is different in every single case.

Tarred birch

KELO and TERWA get their surface from a traditional pine-tar treatment: a darker tone, a matte finish and a scent people recognise.

Military fabric

Genuine M05, MM14 and Flecktarn camouflage fabric. Durable, matte and grippy — the same cloth used in field gear.

Design and specials

RATIA patterns printed onto birch, the KARB case's bamboo-fibre composite with a carbon look (50% natural bamboo), and limited runs that are made only once.

Made to order, not to a warehouse

Cases are not made in advance to wait for a buyer. The order starts production: the wood is cut and sanded for that specific phone model, the personalisation is engraved or printed, the MagSafe magnet is fitted if you chose it, and the surface is finished.

Two things follow. First, there is little waste, because nothing is made that nobody wanted. Second, delivery is not picking from a shelf — production takes 2–10 days before the parcel leaves. More about responsibility →

Phone models

Which phones are cases made for?

The range covers six brands and more than a hundred models. New models join shortly after they are announced — often before the phone reaches the shops.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where are Lastu phone cases made?

They are made by hand in Northern Finland. Production only starts once an order comes in, so making a case takes 2–10 days and delivery a further 2–5 business days.

Where does the wood come from?

The birch comes from FSC-certified Nordic forests. No endangered wood species are used at all.

Does a wooden case survive daily use?

It does. The wood is finished with several coats of wax, and the structure has a raised lip around the screen and the camera. The protection is measured in Drop protection and thickness.

Is every case different?

Wooden ones are. Birch grain varies from sheet to sheet, so no two are exactly alike. On military fabric cases the pattern lands slightly differently for the same reason.

Which phone models are cases available for?

iPhone, Samsung, OnePlus, Google Pixel, Nothing Phone and Realme models. New models are added to the range shortly after they are announced.
