Lastu has been part of sustainable development since 2011. At first, we planted trees in Zambia in collaboration with Greenpop. In 2016–2017, we donated 5% of our sales to WWF’s conservation work. Now we’re helping clean the world’s oceans by supporting the The Ocean Cleanup project.
The Ocean Cleanup develops technology that can passively collect plastic waste from the world’s oceans, carried by currents. The goal is to remove up to 50% of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in five years.
The Ocean Cleanup’s system consists of a floating structure and a deep-sea anchor that slows the device’s movement relative to the plastic. This makes it possible to collect plastic waste efficiently without endangering marine life or increasing carbon dioxide emissions.
The project aims to bring collected plastic back to shore, recycle it, and sell it for reuse. The revenue generated this way funds the expansion of cleanup operations to other marine areas.
