TERWA – wooden tar birch phone cases & covers
iPhone, Samsung, OnePlus, Pixel, Realme – dark brown, engravable

The campfire has smoldered through the night. Mist rises from the lake, the coffee pot starts to hiss, and the air has that smoky, resinous scent you won’t find in the perfume aisle. TERWA is a handcrafted wooden phone case made from tar birch – dark brown and genuine, and it smells exactly like that morning. You pick up your phone about 56 times a day; here’s a case that gives those moments something extra. The wood grain lives on the surface like growth rings on a stump, and no two are the same. Fits iPhone 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, Samsung Galaxy, OnePlus, Google Pixel and Realme models. Add MagSafe or engrave a name and create your own TERWA case.

In the northern forests, tar pits smoked for weeks, tar boats came down the river to Oulu, and the whole city carried the scent. The same substance helped hold sailing ship ropes together across the Atlantic. Lastu was born in that city. TERWA is that heritage in modern form: a phone case treated with the same stuff – just on a slightly smaller scale.

Material: tar birch – smoke and grain

Tone & surface
Tar birch
  • Tar birch – dark brown like a coffee pot that’s been by the fire, with the grain showing through. Every wooden phone case is a unique piece.
  • The tar treatment repels water splashes – no stickiness, no staining your hands. Morning dew, a rain shower and fishy hands won’t bother it. Swimming will.
  • A subtle, genuine tar scent, not a fragrance. Strongest during the first weeks – that’s when it takes you to a smoke sauna bench and a September lakeside rock – then settles into something only you know is there.

Not from stock. Nordic, made to order.

The tar pits smoked. The scent stayed.

Every TERWA phone case is made to order in Finland from Nordic birch. Tar repels water splashes, doesn’t get sticky and won’t stain your hands. No stock cases, no mass production – and no, we didn’t invent tar ourselves: it has been boiled around here for hundreds of years, we’re just continuing the story. Frequently asked questions

What is a dark wooden phone case – recommendation?
TERWA is made from Nordic tar-treated birch, giving the wood a unique dark blue-brown tone and a subtle natural scent. No paint, no print. Every phone case is different thanks to the material. MagSafe-compatible available.
What does tarred birch mean — isn’t it sticky?
Silver birch is a Nordic wood whose surface has absorbed tar during treatment. It gives the wood a deep brownish-blue tone and a subtle pine scent. The finish is not sticky – the TERWA phone case is smooth and pleasant to hold.
Would TERWA make a good gift for a nature lover or cabin person?
Absolutely. Tar is part of Finland’s cultural heritage — a familiar scent, a natural material. TERWA is a meaningful gift for anyone who loves the outdoors, the cabin life, or simply appreciates authentic Nordic character.
Can the TERWA phone case handle everyday use?
Yes. The surface is finished to stand up to everyday use — it repels moisture and splashes. Engraving or your own image can be added. MagSafe-compatible available. Made to order in Northern Finland.

What our customers say

Customer Reviews

Overall rating: 4.8 / 5 from 879 reviews.

KAAMOS – Puhelimen kuoret aidosta koivusta

Customer photo review of HIILI – Puhelimen kuoret mustasta koivusta 🇫🇮

Myöskin Leka näytönsuoja on iphone 15 pro puhelimeen väärän kokoinen. Reunat jäävät ns tyhjänpäälle ja puhelimen sivuista kevyellä puristuksella suoja nousee osittain irti näytöstä ja ilmakuplia ilmestyy kalvon ja näytön väliin. Muuten tuote erittäin hieno ja aion jatkossakin tilata kaupasta suojakuoria.

HIILI – Puhelimen kuoret mustasta koivusta 🇫🇮

HORSMA – Puhelimen kuoret aidosta koivusta

Ei saa mistään parempia ja tyylikkäämpiä suojakuoria. Ei löydy mitään moitittavaa. Todella laadukkaita. Istuu puhelimeen täydellisesti. Oisko jo kolmannet mitkä ostanut eri puhelimiin, muualta en enää osta.

Customer photo review of KAAMOS – Puhelimen kuoret aidosta koivusta

KAAMOS – Puhelimen kuoret aidosta koivusta

Kiva ostaa kotimaiselta. Tehkääpä vielä video puun matkasta metsästä kuoreksi, olisi kiinnostavaa seurata koko ketju terwauksineen kaikkineen. Kiitos ja terveisiä tyytyväiseltä käyttäjältä.

TERWA – Puhelimen kuoret tervatusta koivusta

Customer photo review of TERWA – Puhelimen kuoret tervatusta koivusta

TERWA – Puhelimen kuoret tervatusta koivusta

Kuori vaikuttaa laadukkaalta ja kaiverruksen lisääminen on hieno idea! Olen hehkuttanut kuorta jo muille. Olisin hommannut tällaisen jo aiemmin. Jos vain olisin ollut ko. tuotteesta tietoinen.
