Phone cases with your own engraving

Engraving

Your own image burned into wood

Engraving is a quieter way to personalise a case than a colour print: the design stays in the tone of the wood and doesn't cover the grain. Upload an image or type your text, position it in the preview and order.

Short answer

How is the engraving made?

You upload an image on the product page, the page converts it into an engravable design automatically, and a laser burns it straight into the birch surface. An engraving is not a sticker or a print: it is a mark burned into the wood, so it doesn't wear away or peel at the edges. The preview shows the design in black, but on the finished case it is a darker tone of the wood itself.

Steps

Four steps

  1. Upload the image. The product page converts it automatically into an engravable design — in practice a clean, single-tone shape.
  2. Position and scale. Move the design where you want it and set the size. On mobile you do this with your fingers.
  3. Read the preview correctly. In the preview the design appears black. On the finished case it is burned into the wood, so the tone is brown or dark grey depending on the material.
  4. Add to cart. The case is engraved exactly as the preview shows it.
📌 Remember: the preview is black — the result is the colour of the wood. That is deliberate, so the shape and placement of the design read clearly while you are still designing.
Examples

What kind of image works as an engraving?

An engraving is single-tone, so it lives on shape rather than colour. Clear outlines, symbols, text and line drawings work best. A photograph works too, but soft tonal differences simplify.

Ready-made engraving designs are also available: see the ready-made engravings.

How an engraving is made

The laser follows the outlines of the design and burns the mark into the surface of the wood. The same machine does both text and images — the only difference is what you positioned in the preview.

Lastu character weighing an engraving against a printed image Comparison

Engraving or a printed image?

An engraving is single-tone and understated. It doesn't wear away, because the mark is in the wood rather than on top of it. It suits names, symbols, logos and line drawings.

A printed image is full colour and sharp. It reproduces the tones of a photograph and works with multi-colour logos. The birch grain shows through the print.

Both are done on the same product page, and both can be combined with the MagSafe option. Read the full design guide →

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about engraving

Why does the preview show black?

A black preview shows the shape and placement of the design as clearly as possible. On the finished case the engraving is burned into the wood, so the tone is brown or dark grey depending on the material.

What kind of image suits engraving?

An image with clear outlines: a symbol, a logo, text, a line drawing or a high-contrast photograph. Soft tonal gradients and very thin lines simplify when engraved.

Does the engraving wear off with use?

No. The engraving is burned into the wood, so it is not a layer that can come away. The finish on the case protects the mark from normal wear.

Can anything other than a wooden case be engraved?

Engraving is done on wooden cases. Military fabric, carbon-look and design cases are personalised by printing instead. Both options appear on the product page once you have chosen the material.

How long does an engraved case take?

The case is made to order in 2–10 days and shipped in 2–5 business days with the delivery method you choose.
