For over a decade, we have been making wooden phone cases, protective cases, covers, phone cases, and MagSafe-compatible cases right in our own workshop in Oulu, sheltered within the old factory setting of the Åström building. Every case is sanded, dyed, and finished by hand so the wood can keep what it was born for: its uniqueness and natural character.
Non-toxic treatment – truly non-toxic
When we promised to make products we could use ourselves every day, we knew one thing: everything had to be safe, non-toxic, and natural.
That’s why we use ’Colour-Finish’ wood dyeing in line with EN71 and ASTM standards, the same level used in children’s wooden toys. That means there’s nothing extra on the surface – no toxins, no harmful chemicals, no pointless compromise on safety.
The result of hundreds of tests: a multilayer finish
The road to this point did not happen in a single night of endless darkness. We have tested hundreds of different ways to treat, protect, and finish wood so it can handle the everyday life of a phone: sand, moisture, sweat, frost, coffee stains, the steam from a camp stove, and even light washing.
The current multilayer finish is the result of this extensive product development. It:
- repels dirt and moisture – everyday splashes don’t stick to the surface
- makes the wood smooth yet naturally tactile
- protects the color from excessive wear
- gives every case its own character – no two are exactly alike

Made in our own Oulu workshop – every case separately
Lastu has no assembly line. We have a workshop, the scent of planed wood, sanding dust in the air, and people who truly care about their work.
Every phone case, cover, MagSafe case, and phone case with your own image is made by hand in our own production in Oulu. The wood surfaces are:
- Worked – shaped to fit the phone model
- Dyed with a natural tone – misty shades, deep dark tones, and charcoal tones
- Finished with a multilayer, non-toxic varnish and color coating
The wood gets to keep its own features: dark grain, light knot marks, a little life that makes every case an individual – like a piece of story found between two misty morning heather patches.
