Lastu in Oulu – From Åström Leather Factory to the heart of modern technology
Lastu designs, manufactures, assembles and delivers its products from Oulu, at Nahkatehtaankatu 2 – from the historic Åström leather factory, on the edge of Ainola Park.
Oululainen Lastu operates at Nahkatehtaankatu 2, in Myllytulli. Our premises are located in the impressive red-brick building of the Åström leather factory, right between the Oulu Art Museum and Tietomaa, next to Ainola Park. It is a remarkably fine continuation that products related to modern technology are now being created in the former leather factory – phone cases, Lastu Case, phone cases and cases.
Historic factory milieu, modern twist
Åström's leather factory was one of the most significant industrial plants of its time. Leather was tanned there and products were made that traveled to world markets. Now, within the same walls, tradition and the present meet: material-driven design meets mobile technology. Lastu has been manufacturing products in Oulu since 2011, where the aesthetics and practicality of northern nature are visible in every detail.
We see the story of the building as a kind of transformation: the former leather factory's role continues as a home of craftsmanship and industrial expertise, but with a more modern twist. Ainolanpuisto – nature, light, and flowing water as a photo location
Most of Lastu's product photos are taken in the neighboring Ainolanpuisto. The park's white bridges, freely flowing water, and changing seasons complement the visual story of our products. In autumn, the gold and red of the leaves highlight the grain of the wood material and give the photos a warm, Oulu-like atmosphere.
