What on earth is the Service and Upgrade?
Simple concept: you don’t buy a new wooden phone case when the surface gets tired, or when you do. Instead, you send your old Lastu to us, we replace the surface — either with the same material or something completely new — and send it back by mail. Same handcrafted frame, completely new look.
Phone case service isn’t a new idea. But nobody else has done it before. The reason is simple: most cases are plastic, and “service” for a plastic case just means buying a new one. Lastu is different. The birch frame lasts — only the surface wears out.
Service or upgrade — which one do you need?
Good question. The answer depends on two things: how the surface looks now, and how you want it to look next.
Choose service if
You like the material, but the surface is scratched or worn. We’ll restore it to like-new condition.
Choose an upgrade if
You saw the new material on Instagram and knew right away. We replace the entire surface — the same case becomes something completely different.
Here’s how phone case service works in practice
Three steps. No more, no mystery.
- Order the Service and Upgrade from our shop. Choose whether you want a service or a surface swap — and what material, if you’re changing it.
- Send your Lastu to us. Instructions come with your order confirmation. Shipping is simple — just don’t seal the package with concrete, or things might get a little funny.
- We handle the rest by hand and return the case by mail. Same fit as always — a completely new surface.
What material can you upgrade to?
Our selection changes, but right now you can upgrade to any of these:
- TERWA — tarred birch. Dark, aromatic, water-protected. A classic for a reason.
- KELO — tarred birch with a grey patina. More understated, same quality.
- POPPY — red birch. Striking, one of a kind, every piece different.
- M05, MM14, Lumikoivu, Kelo, KARB... basically almost anything.

Psst — engraving
If the case has engraving — a name, coordinates, a message — write it in with the order. We’ll make the same engraving on the new surface. It won’t go to waste.
What if I changed phones?
Here’s the honest bit: phone case service works for your current Lastu. Lastu is made for a specific phone model, so it doesn’t move with you to a new phone.
But the case still doesn’t need the bin. You can have it serviced and give it as a gift or pass it on — someone else probably uses the same phone model. And for a new phone, of course, you can get a new Lastu.
Why hasn’t anyone done this before?
Because most phone cases are plastic. A plastic case is disposable by design — it’s quick to make, cheap to sell, and easy to replace. Nobody has built a service model for a plastic case because it simply doesn’t make sense.
Lastu starts from a different place. The birch frame is solid — it lasts for years. The surface is what wears out. And when the surface is replaceable, the case goes from disposable to durable.

Frequently asked questions about phone case service
How long does service take?
Estimated 2–5 business days from the time the case arrives with us in Oulu. We’ll let you know when it’s on its way back.
Does the service cost the same as a new case?
No. The service and upgrade is more affordable than buying a new case — you only buy a surface replacement, not a new frame.
Can any Lastu be sent in for service?
Yes, the service works for all Lastu models, regardless of model or year. The old frame is often the best frame.
What if the case is badly damaged?
Still place the order — tell us the condition. We’ll see what can be done. Surprisingly often the frame is fine even if the surface looks rough.
Can I use the service from abroad?
Yes. We ship abroad and receive cases from abroad too. Shipping costs are the customer’s responsibility both ways.
