What is the best protective phone case?

Not the one with the most plastic. The best protective case is the one you barely notice using: it doesn’t slip, doesn’t make your phone bulky, and doesn’t get in the way. Protection comes down to three things: a raised camera ring that keeps the lenses off surfaces, raised edges that take the hit before the screen does, and a grippy material — because a phone that stays in your hand doesn’t fall.

1 · Camera

The camera doesn’t touch the surface

On modern phones, the camera module rises above the body. Without a case, it’s the first part that hits the table — every time you put your phone down. The lenses are also among the most expensive and scratch-sensitive surfaces on your phone.

Lastu’s raised camera ring sits above the level of the lenses. When your phone lies on its back on a table or presses against fabric in your pocket, the lens doesn’t touch the surface at all — the frame takes the contact. The raised ring isn’t a design trick: it’s sized separately for every phone model, based on how high the camera module rises on that specific model.

2 · Screen

Raised edges keep the screen off the surface

When a phone falls, it most often hits a corner or lands screen-first. In that moment, a millimeter matters.

Lastu’s front edge rises above the level of the screen. When the phone hits a flat surface screen-side down, the edge of the case hits first — not the glass. The same applies to the corners: extra material is left there specifically so they absorb the impact. The difference sounds small. In a screen replacement, it’s €200–400.

Testing

Fifteen years of drop tests

Every new model is dropped before it goes on sale. The tests show which corner the impact actually targets and how the shape of the case distributes the impact energy so it doesn’t transfer into the phone’s body.

Drop tests are done onto a hard surface from several angles, because in real life a phone never falls the same way twice. That’s exactly why fit matters more than material thickness: one millimeter in the right place protects better than an extra layer everywhere.

Lastu isn’t a decoration that happens to protect. It’s a phone case that happens to be made from real wood. Birch, bamboo fiber, M05 camouflage, and fabrics look the way they look — but protection isn’t compromised for appearance, and appearance isn’t compromised for protection.

3 · Grip
