Two friends and one annoying plastic phone case
In 2011, Sakke was holding a plastic phone case. It was cheap, everyone had one, and it meant absolutely nothing. From that one irritation, Lastu was born — not from a business plan or pressure from investors.
Sakke and Jussi made the first Case from Nordic wood, handcrafted in Oulu. Each one was different, because wood is different. It wasn’t a marketing line — it was the whole idea.
Fifteen years later, the workshop is still in Oulu, in Åström’s old leather factory at Nahkatehtaankatu 2. Same wood, same hands, more phone models.
Materials
Three things Lastu is made of
No print, no wood-patterned plastic, no film. What you see on the surface is what’s actually there.
Genuine Nordic birch
The back plate of every wooden Lastu is a single layer of real birch. The grain runs through the surface, not on top of it. Sanding, staining, and finishing are done by hand in our own workshop — staining meets EN 71 and ASTM standards, with the same level of safety as wooden children’s toys.
No two are alike. And we’re not trying to make them that way.
Genuine military fabric
Camouflage-patterned Case are cut from real fabric, not a printed pattern. Seven fabrics from five countries: M05 woodland and snow camo, M04 desert, Ukraine’s MM14, Germany’s Flecktarn, Sweden’s M90, and MultiCam.
Lastu made the world’s first M05 phone cases in 2018. No one had done it before.

Start
The first Case made from Nordic wood, handcrafted in Oulu. No business plan — just a belief that your phone deserves something better than plastic.
2014–2016
Awards
Design Achievement of the Year 2014. Two years later, Sakari was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year. The recognition wasn’t sought — it came to us.
2018
The world’s first M05 phone cases
With the official Defence Forces camouflage pattern. No one had done it before, and some said the move was too bold. We did it anyway.
2019
Your own image on a phone case
Color printing brought personalization into the mix. From then on, Lastu no longer told only its own story — it made room for yours.
2020
RATIA and the world
Our collaboration with design brand RATIA sold over 20,000 phone cases. At the same time, Lastu products were already heading to over 30 countries. Still made in Oulu — and still are.

Every Lastu is made only after it’s ordered. Production takes 2–10 days, followed by 2–5 business days for delivery. No stock, no phone cases waiting on a shelf — and that’s exactly why each one is made for someone.
